Dr. Loretta Adrian, Ph.D., president of Coastline College in Orange County, California, was recently honored with the “Outstanding President” award from the California Community College Council for Staff and Organizational Development. The award is presented to a president/chancellor in the California community college system to recognize excellence in
leadership in staff and organizational development. Adrian was nominated and selected for the award based on her strong commitment to professional development for the staff and faculty at Coastline, as exemplified by the Leadership Innovating Together for Tomorrow (LITT) and the Faculty Center for Innovation and Excellence.
Dr. Adrian was also recently appointed to the board of directors of the National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship, the nation’s leading organization focused on promoting entrepreneurship and workforce development through community colleges.

Dr. Adrian became president of Coastline Community College in 2010. She has spent more than 25 years in higher education. As president, Adrian has enhanced Coastline’s culture of innovation, entrepreneurship, and excellence, and fostered student and equity-centered mindset and practice.
Adrian has a master’s in Communication Theory from the University of the Pacific and a Ph.D. in Higher Education from Claremont Graduate University. She is a first-generation Filipino-American. After college graduation, she joined the U.S. Peace Corps as a language instructor and became a Project Director. Dr. Adrian pursued both her master’s and Ph.D. as a single mother while raising two children and working full time.
