Direct Assessment Competency-Based Education is a unique method that focuses on the mastery of specific skills or competencies. Unlike traditional education models that measures learning based on time spent in a classroom, direct assessment programs allow students to progress by demonstrating their proficiency in the subject matter.

The proposed Coastline CBE program is designed to allow students to advance based on their ability to master a skill or competency at their own pace. This method is tailored to meet different learning abilities, values students' experiences, and can lead to more efficient student outcomes. This historic accomplishment was made possible by collaboration between faculty and administration.

Dr. Shelly Blair, Dean of Innovative Learning & Career Education, said, "The value of these programs is immense. They provide a flexible and efficient pathway for our students to achieve their academic goals. Being the first in the state to hit this milestone is a testament to our commitment to innovation and student success."

"We are excited about the potential of our CBE program and look forward to the Department of Education's response to our application," added Dr. Vince Rodriguez, President. "Coastline has a history of innovation, and this is the next step in adapting to meet student needs."
