Coastline Student Veteran Featured at Regional Women Veterans Symposium

March 7, 2026 - Costa Mesa, Calif. - Coastline College was proud to be represented by one of its own, Intencia Garard, at the Women Veterans Mental Health and Benefits Symposium. The event brought together veterans, community partners, and service providers to focus on the unique mental health challenges and benefits available to women who have served in the military.

Garard, who serves as Vice President and Commissioner of Public Relations for the Coastline College Student Veterans Club, joined fellow women veterans in a panel discussion focused on the realities of military service and the transition to civilian life. Drawing from her own experiences, she spoke about the importance of accessible mental health resources, strong peer support systems, and creating spaces where women veterans feel seen and heard.

Moderated by Lindsay Gargotto of U.S. Vets, the symposium provided an opportunity for women veterans to share personal stories and insights, highlighting both challenges and resilience. Garard’s contributions emphasized the value of community and the role of student veterans in advocating for one another beyond the classroom.

The event also featured a keynote address by Mayumi Kimura, CalVet Deputy Secretary of Women Veterans Affairs, who spoke about the evolving role of women in the armed forces, the importance of accessible mental health services, and the continued work being done to ensure women veterans receive the benefits and support they have earned.

Garard's participation reflects her ongoing commitment to leadership and advocacy within the veteran community. Through her involvement with Coastline's Student Veterans Club and the Veterans Resource Centers, she continues to support fellow student veterans while helping elevate issues that impact women who have served.

Coastline College remains committed to supporting all veterans and was honored to see one of its student leaders represent the college and share her voice in such an important discussion. Garard’s participation highlighted the leadership and advocacy of Coastline’s student veterans and the ongoing commitment of the Veterans Resource Center to foster community, support, and opportunity for those who have served.
